Yulong Ding, academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK, first Chamberlain (Senior) Chair Professor at the University of Birmingham, Director of the Energy Storage Research Center at the University of Birmingham in the UK, and Chief Professor of the Royal Academy of Engineering - High Tech Company in the UK. Yulong Ding graduated from the Department of Thermal Energy Engineering at Beijing Iron and Steel University with a bachelor's degree in 1985; After obtaining a master's degree from Beijing University of Science and Technology in 1988, he stayed on as a teacher and successively served as a teaching assistant, lecturer, and associate professor; In 1994, he went to the UK to pursue a doctoral degree under the sponsorship of the Overseas Scholarship of the Council of University Presidents in the UK; In 1997, he obtained a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Birmingham in the UK, and for the following four years, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London and the University of Birmingham in the UK; In 2001, he was appointed as a tenured professor at the University of Leeds in the UK, serving as a lecturer, senior lecturer, and professor. He also served as a council member, director of the Institute of Particle Science and Technology, and head of the Department of Chemical Engineering; In 2009, it cooperated with the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to establish an energy storage research team; In 2012, founded the magazine "Energy Storage Science and Technology" and served as the editor in chief; Joined the University of Birmingham as the first Senior Lecture Professor (Chamberlain) in 2013; In 2014, he served as the Chief Professor at Highview, the Royal Academy of Engineering, and founded the Energy Storage Research Center at the University of Birmingham in the UK; Elected as a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2020.


Professor Ding was awarded IChemE Clean Energy Medal (2021) and is a receiver of IChemE Global Awards in three categories of Energy, Research Project and Outstanding Achievement Awards in 2019; Distinguished Energy Storage Individual Award (Beijing International Energy Storage and Expo, 2018); Cryogenic Energy Storage Research Chair Award (Royal Academy of Engineering, 2014); Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award (First Prize, Advanced Compressed Air Energy Storage System, 2014); Energy & Environment Award and Technology and Innovation Grand Prix Award (Liquid Air Energy Storage, ‘The Engineer’ Magazine, 2011).

He has published over 450 technical papers with ~350 in peer-reviewed journals (GS H Index of ~ 71) and filed over 70+ patents. He currently serves on UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy - Molten Salts Advisory Group, UK Royal Society Net Zero Panel, IChemE Publication Medal Assessment Panel, European Technology, and Innovation Platform Working Group on Smart Networks for Energy Transition (ETIPSNET).
